Through the Eyes of the Installer. Gate Intercom Systems.

In this edition of ‘Through the eyes of the installer’ we speak with Martin Stairs, Security Consultant at R.A.S. Group about a recent installation of an AES gate access intercom system.

R.A.S. Group are based in Dublin and have been operating in the security area for over 30 years.  They offer a wide range of services such as CCTV, access control, automatic gates, intercoms, fire alarms and intruder alarms.

Tell us why you installed this product for your client.

My client lives in a high end residential house on quite a large site.  He had an existing intercom system with the standard unit at the gate and a handset fitted in the hall but wanted more flexibility than the current system offered.   It’s a large property and sometimes the family were in a different parts of the house and could not hear the handset alarm so they were missing visitors.   During the day when the homeowner was working in the garden he could not hear the handset ringing inside so if he did not actually see the visitor at the gate he would miss that visitor.

What was the solution for the client?

I decided that a wireless system was needed which was not just limited to a single handset.  This meant that family members could answer it in different rooms of the home.  In addition, one handset could be slipped into a jacket pocket for when they were in the garden.  Now that there were more options, the caller at the gate would get immediate attention. All the handsets have their own docking station where they can be recharged, so each can remain in separate zones of the home and be moved around.  The standard old version would be a fixed handset in one room of the house, so this flexibility made a considerable difference.

How was the installation process?

It was pretty straightforward and we were able to install the system using some of the existing infrastructure meaning we didn’t have to replace everything.  It interfaced with the automatic gate as well.   It will be very easy to install this system on a new site and I would recommend it over the standard option as it offers so much more flexibility for the homeowner.

What’s your feedback on the AES intercom system?

The equipment was of a good quality and we found it easy to install.  The instructions were pretty straightforward and the engineer reported that it worked seamlessly once it was installed.   The client is continuing to use the system and is delighted with it.
