A successful CPD Event from Northwood Technology

On the 27th September Northwood Technology held a breakfast seminar at the Gibson hotel in Dublin.   The CPD event attracted those from many industry sectors and different roles but all with the common interest in the design of security systems.

Northwood decided to organise this event as we know the challenges engineers are facing trying to design complex large-scale integrated security systems.  With so much new technology available, it can be very confusing when trying to decide what to use on a project.  This was an opportunity to introduce new products and systems to show how to incorporate them into the systems for the future.

Wealth of information

We have a wealth of information to hand internally on our expert team and from our suppliers of world leading brands.  We wanted to take this information to the market place to share with those who would benefit the most.  This event was helpful because the professionals not only spoke on their area of expertise but they were able to answer questions on a one-to-one basis.

Our speakers were leading experts from the security industry and represented the world’s leading brands in this sector.   Richard Forsyth, UK & Ireland Sales Manager for ievo security systems started the morning speaking about the adoption of biometric access control.  He gave examples of systems that had recently been adapted and how this technology is growing in popularity not only in the UK but now in Ireland.

Derek Walker, UK & Ireland Sales Manager of Paxton access control continued the conversation around access control with a detailed look at networked systems and how they can be incorporated as part of an overall security solutions.

Mark Dempsey, Sales Engineer with Avigilon gave a very practical talk about networking for megapixel CCTV.  Avigilon CCTV Systems are designed with tomorrows growth in mind and it was a valuable example of how this technology can be adapted for excellent results.

Ian Deuchars, Business Development Manager of ComNet Europe gave a thought provoking presentation on Ethernet in non-Ethernet environments.  This subject was then the source of much discussion over break time amongst attendees.

GDPR is hot news at the moment therefore we decided to include the subject as part of our event.  Patrick Nolan, security and risk consultant was joined by ASIS chairman John Baily to share their insights on the subject.  They gave us an outline of the general data protection regulations which many found very helpful.

Finally, Sylvester Hiemstra, Regional Sales Director Avigilon Ireland and NI spoke at length on the interesting topic of advanced object recognition and face analytics.  This technology is growing in use not only in the US but across Europe.

Exhibitions

After the speakers had finished there were exhibitions and demonstrations of the products and solutions discussed with a chance to question the speakers further.

‘We were delighted to have such a good turnout for the event’ said Paul Hennessy, Managing Director of Northwood Technology.  ‘There were people from many industry sectors who attended and it was great to hear such positive feedback on the value of the information supplied on the day from our expert speakers’.

The feedback from attendees was indeed very positive and many remarked that it was a morning well spent which will make their design work easier when it comes to security.  It was very practical for those that are consulting or designing security solutions for their clients.  Attendees left with the added reassurance that the team at Northwood are just a phone call away should they need our support in any design aspect of security solutions.

Northwood would like to thank all our speakers, our team members and especially those that attended on the day.  We plan to hold a number of similar events in the coming months so stay connected to our social media channels for more information.
